Melinda Spolski Earns Albright College Excellence in Teaching Award

Reading, PA (08/03/2023) — Nominated by her students, Melinda Anthony Spolski, of Schuylkill Haven, Pa., has been named winner of the 2023 Albright College School of Professional Studies Melinda Riccio '94 Memorial Excellence in Teaching Award for her ability to build critical thinking, to provide individualized feedback and for her supportive teaching style. Spolski is an instructor of applied psychology at Albright.

The Melinda Riccio '94 Memorial Excellence in Teaching Award is dedicated to the honor and memory of Assistant Professor Melinda Riccio who was known for enthusiasm, excellence in teaching, and passion and dedication to students. Winners are nominated by students in the School of Professional Studies.

"She gives great feedback and you can tell she appreciates your posts and the conversations being had among the class regarding diversity and how we can all be more mindful and helpful towards each other," said a nominating student.

A class of 1993 graduate, Spolski holds an Albright College Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and business, and a master's degree in counseling psychology with a specialization in child and adolescent therapy from Chestnut Hill College.

She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania and a National Certified Counselor, whose expertise lies in counseling victims of childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault, trauma, and in treating patients with anxiety disorders. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for the treatment of sexual assault and abuse.

Over the course of more than 25 years in practice, Spolski provided individual, group, family and marital counseling, working with child, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations.

An educator for nearly as long, she is the coordinator of counseling and psychological services and student disability resources at Pennsylvania State University's Schuylkill Campus. She is also a member of the adjunct faculty for Albright College, Penn State Berks and Penn State Schuylkill.

Spolski also provides continuing education for Pennsylvania physicians, as well as the Pennsylvania Departments of Education and Public Welfare.
